IPM 2.0 is the key to opening the doors to software sales

Jun 24, 2021

Eaton understands that it isn’t always easy to pitch a software story when you’re perceived as a hardware company. Yet for our channel partners, the ability to share a 30-second software narrative is essential when it comes to raising customer awareness and engaging in meaningful conversations with clients.

Eaton's Intelligent Power Manager (IPM) 2.0 software for disaster avoidance applications provides the tools needed to monitor and manage power devices in your physical or virtual environment.

Cluster shutdown capability grew out of Dell VxRail collaboration

Eaton Intelligent Power Manager® (IPM) 2.0 is a simple and effective way to introduce new customers to our extensive software portfolio, which is now marketed under the overarching name BrightLayer-Data Centers Suite. Although IPM 2.0 does not provide the incredible breadth and depth of other enterprise-class components of the suite, its unique automation capabilities and seamless integration with leading virtualization platforms make it the perfect companion to today’s edge computing deployments, in which customers are increasingly relying on Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI) platforms such as Dell VxRail, Nutanix AHV or VMware vSAN.

While there is widespread awareness that the ability to shut down clusters is critical in any HCI environment, many customers may not realize that Eaton actually pioneered this capability with the Dell VxRail platform in 2019. Thanks to our close alliance with Dell, we were able to overcome multiple technical hurdles with the help of Dell’s development teams.

Vendor alliances enable fast-track innovation

Being at the forefront of innovation isn’t new for Eaton, which introduced its first HCI connectors back in 2014, at a time when it was still an emerging technology. Ever since, we have been establishing alliances with leading vendors to ensure that power is always managed in the best possible manner. In fact, our strong partnership with industry-leading IT vendors has enabled Eaton to help customers across the globe automate power management to maintain business continuity in the event of a power outage.

Because IPM 2.0 is optimized for today’s virtual environments – and able to facilitate remote monitoring, management and control of network devices – Eaton’s technology can ensure system uptime and data integrity to support business continuity from day one. As part of our continued pledge to developing power management solutions that protect customers’ investments, preserve data integrity and optimize uptime, Eaton is now rolling out our next-generation IPM 2.0 platform, which underscores a focus on user experience and interoperability. For instance, the setup of various automation capabilities has been vastly enhanced to make it even more intuitive and easy. Furthermore, the platform is now compatible with the latest versions of all leading HCI software vendors.

Expanded deal registration opportunities

To help our channel partners maximize the advantages of these capabilities, as well as bolster the value of including Eaton in their HCI projects, we have decided to remove the threshold that has previously prevented smaller HCI deployments from qualifying for Deal Registration. Starting in Q3, resellers will be able to register projects connected to select HCI configurations.

Elevator pitch: solved

IPM 2.0 is the optimal solution for you to lead with when trying to uncover new opportunities and close sales, providing an extremely targeted message with a clear value proposition for the booming HCI market. The software not only offers a modern platform with room to grow over time and integration with the latest versions of leading HCI software providers, but also provides an attractive access to Eaton Deal Registration benefits. Selling power management has never been easier!
