Eaton offers a perfect fit for what MSPs really want

Nov 21, 2022

Not only did Hurricane Nicole fail to deter the majority of attendees from reaching last week’s IT Nation in Orlando, it also didn’t hamper Eaton’s ability to gauge which way the wind is blowing when it comes to the Managed Service Provider (MSP) segment. In fact, the event – which was designed for the ConnectWise community and drew some 3,500 MSPs – provided an ideal backdrop for us to gain valuable insight into the distinct needs of this growing population.

IT Nation provided the perfect stage from which to launch Eaton’s new MSP Program

Energized, looking for new solutions

The first observation for a channel veteran like myself was that the average age of an MSP tends to be much younger than the traditional IT channel crowd. As a result, we encountered numerous babies, children and even dogs accompanying their Millennials/Gen Z MSPs onto the trade show floor. Perhaps the youthfulness of this segment is why, we discovered, they often associate one of our competitive UPS brands with the term “old” – a positive sign they’re looking for something fresher and more in tune with what they need. And Eaton delivers.

To begin with, our integration with ConnectWise Automate was a huge hit. Hailing this advantage as a game changer, MSPs told us that the ability to generate recurring revenue from power devices is very appealing to them. Not only is this capability unavailable from other UPS brands, it’s an advantage MSPs said they’re willing to pay more for in order to gain access to valuable automation tools.

Integration, cybersecurity and robust support

Eaton’s strong positioning on cybersecurity also resonated with MSPs. Safeguarding against ever-increasing cybercrime was not only one of the hottest topics on the show floor, the niche comprised 80% of IT Nation vendors. Conversely, while power doesn’t rank top-of-mind for MSPs – Eaton was the only vendor represented in this product category – it made for a great conversation starter and really helped to drive our message. MSPs are clearly eager for a fresh approach to power and how they can successfully integrate these products within their remote monitoring and management (RMM) platform.

Additionally, IT Nation provided the perfect stage from which to launch Eaton’s new MSP Program, which we custom-tailored to focus on the specific needs of this community. The program features unique benefits such as direct access to our highest level of tech support and application engineering teams; demo units and training that can help MSPs quickly learn the basis of our software offering.

Greater selection, broader opportunities

Even more, MSPs will benefit from the slew of additional product categories available as we continue to integrate the Tripp Lite portfolio. Because many MSPs are solicited every day by customers looking to add a switch, docking station or other connectivity device, having access to these solutions through Eaton gives MSPs a one-stop shop for all things power- and connectivity-related. This is just one more capability that our competitors do not offer.

You can rest assured, Eaton has more to introduce and announce in the coming months, as we recognize that MSPs are not a passing trend but a lasting force that we can help, both with customized solutions and personalized programs. Not to mention, Eaton satisfies MSPs’ quest to engage with vendors who are fresh and cool! What other UPS company has an entire galaxy devoted to the next frontier in IT? Not to mention, our very own brand of dynamic desk toys? It’s a perfect fit.
